Our mission

Slavery in 2012? In your chocolate bar? Sounds crazy! That’s why Tony’s continues to take on the fight for a slave-free chocolate industry. We will not rest until everyone throughout the chocolate supply chain can carelessly enjoy their chocolate and the African cocoa farmer receives a truly fair price for their cocoa. Our journey towards 100% slave-free chocolate has proved not to be an easy one, yet where there’s a will there is a way.

Since 2005, we have denounced the labor abuses – often in the form of child slavery – rampant in the chocolate industry. Through our “Tony’s in Africa” program, we have performed our own research on how to improve working conditions within the cocoa chain while encouraging other chocolate brands to switch to Fairtrade cocoa. By eating Tony’s chocolate you can help, too! As more Tony’s Fans stand behind our mission, the quicker we will realize a better life for African cocoa farmers, putting an end to child labor in the chocolate industry.

As we have stated in the past, every little bit helps. That’s why we use and encourage other brands to use Fairtrade cocoa. Yet we want to make it clear that Fairtrade chocolate, although a step in the right direction does not go far enough. Labor abuses will continue until every African cocoa farmer is paid a truly fair price for their cocoa. The “Tony’s in Africa” project aims to quickly curb these abuses by initiating a clear mandate: Ensure cocoa farmers a stronger (financial) position within the cocoa supply chain while enabling African cocoa farmers the ability to create and invest in their own organizations, put money back into their communities and ensure an end to child slavery.
